Real Sociedad win in Lyon

Antoine Griezmann and Haris Seferovic gave Real Sociedad a convincing 2-0 win over Lyon in the Champions League.

Jagoba Arrasate named his strongest available XI for the game at Stade Gerland, handing starts to new boy Seferovic and former Gones youngster Griezmann.

And it didn’t take long for the France U21 international to make an impact, as he laid off Carlos Vela inside the area, only for the Mexican striker to hit the side-netting.

The ex-Arsenal goalscorer was back causing trouble with just 15 minutes gone as his venomous effort from the edge of the area struck the left-hand upright.

A goal had been coming, and it eventually came after only 17 minutes. Vela crossed from the left-hand side, only for Griezmann to score the most stunning overhead kick to give his men the lead.

Yoann Gourcuff troubled Claudio Bravo midway through the half with a long-range drive, but other than that, the home team rarely troubled La Real as they went in at half time.

After the break, Maxime Gonalons went close with a header for Remi Garde’s men early on, but it wasn’t long before Sociedad doubled their lead.

A one-two between Seferovic and Griezmann saw the Swiss striker 30 yards from goal, only for the forward to his an audacious effort over Anthony Lopes and into the back of the net.

Gonalons again went close with a header from a corner late on, but his effort bounced off the crossbar.

Milan Bisevac got sent off late on for Lyon for a second bookable offence and the French side had to be content with a two-goal deficit going into next week’s second leg.
