Isco has reflected on the unique aspect to his winning goal for Real Madrid, as he admits that the team still have room for improvement.
The €30m summer signing from Malaga popped up five minutes from time with a headed winner to secure Los Merengues’ 2-1 win in Week 1 against Real Betis.
For the youngster, his first official goal for his new team was his first scored in such fashion.
“It’s the first goal I’ve scored from a header in La Liga and I am very happy to win three points,” reflected Isco to reporters post-match.
“We started with a win at home, which is important. We were a little surprised by Betis, but it’s the first match of La Liga, we need to improve but it was important to win.
“We need to work a bit harder, but we have a good feeling about Madrid for the rest of the season.”
Focus post-match was on Coach Carlo Ancelotti’s decision to field Diego Lopez ahead of Iker Casillas in goal.
“That’s a question for the Coach, I can’t comment and the important thing was the win and the three points.”
