Real Madrid have announced the squad numbers members of their first team will wear in the 2013-14 campaign.
However, Los Blancos have caused a surprise by not allocating the No 11 shirt, worn by Ricardo Carvalho last season, to any of the current players, increasing speculation it is reserved for Gareth Bale in case the Welshman finally completes his transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu before the close of the transfer window.
Madrid’s summer arrivals have all been allocated numbers. Isco has been given the No 23 shirt, Asier Illarramendi the No 24, while Dani Carvajal has taken the No 15 shirt worn by Michael Essien last term.
Meanwhile, Jese Rodriguez has been designated Gonzalo Higuain’s No 20 shirt and Alvaro Morata has inherited the No 21 shirt vacated by Jose Callejon.
Denis Cheryshev, on the other hand, has not been allocated a number despite being registered with the first team, and neither has Antonio Adan, who is expected to leave the club in the next few weeks.
