Farinos grateful for Villarreal stay

Veteran midfielder Javier Farinos has expressed his delight after Villarreal confirmed he would be remaining with the club next season.

Farinos [pictured, left] joined the newly-promoted Yellow Submarine on a free transfer from Levante in December 2012, yet made just 10 La Liga appearances and was forced to miss the final month of the campaign after suffering an Achilles injury.

It followed on from a hip problem last summer that hastened the 35-year-old’s exit from the Ciutat de Valencia, so Farinos could not hide his joy at the news Villarreal boss Marcelino Garcia Toral still considers him a key member his squad.

“I’m very happy to be staying one more year at such a big club like Villarreal and that’s important to me, even more so since it will be in La Primera.

“After all we went through last term I’m really glad I’ll be able to continue and experience this year. Everything has been going well but I’ve still not been given the all-clear.

“As a result, I’ve still got another month to go,” he explained at a Press conference.

Farinos, who holds two full Spanish international caps and numbers Valencia, Inter, Real Mallorca and Hercules among his former clubs, is aware that consolidation in the top flight remains the priority.

“Last year the aim was promotion and this year it’s safety. It’s not going to be easy but this team deserves it.

“It will be difficult to earn a place but competition is something that will be good for both Villarreal and the Coach.

“The main thing is our squad and we have players like [Tomas] Pina, who is a good reinforcement, and Bruno, our best player.

“Also, I get the feeling I’m appreciated here and that’s very satisfying, given how things are and how football is nowadays.

“There are a lot of footballers who would like to be here and fortunately I am,” he concluded.
