Coentrao insists on Madrid exit

Fabio Coentrao has told Real Madrid that he is desperate to leave the club before the close of the transfer window.

Coentrao knows his days with Madrid are numbered, given new boss Carlo Ancelotti is wants to bring both Gareth Bale and Mattia De Sciglio to the Santiago Bernabeu, and reports in Spain suggest his preferred destination might be the Premier League.

The Portuguese left-back has failed to settle since penning a six-year contract with Los Blancos in July 2011 following his signing from Benfica for a reported €30m fee, and is now studying a number of proposals.

It is believed Monaco were interested in the 25-year-old some months ago and could now revive their interest, although former boss Jose Mourinho is considering bringing him to Stamford Bridge.

There is also the possibility that Coentrao could be used as a makeweight in the operation to bring Bale to the Spanish capital.
