Barcelona’s search for a central defender could mean youngster Marc Bartra may be forced to seek first team football elsewhere.

The 22-year-old right made just eight La Liga appearances last term and in all probability will see his chances of making Tata Martino’s starting line-up drastically reduced should the Catalans be successful in their quest.

Aware of this, several clubs have asked about the right-back’s availability, in particular newly-promoted Villarreal.

According to Radio Castellon, the Yellow Submarine have already been in contact with Barca to enquire about the chances of taking Bartra on loan with an option to buy at the end of the 2013-14 campaign.

Although Martino is still assessing his squad during pre-season, he could look favourably on one of the club’s most promising youngsters to gain some much-needed top-flight experience next term.
