‘Funds available for transfers’

Barcelona’s economic Vice-President Javier Faus has insisted that the club have enough money to sign a central defender.

The Blaugrana have been on the look-out for a centre-back for over a year now, with the Camp Nou side now targeting Liverpool’s Daniel Agger and David Luiz of Chelsea.

And the board member has claimed that Coach Gerardo Martino will have funds available.

“Money won’t be a problem in terms of making a signing,” he told reporters.

“We’re not going to go crazy, but our priority in that respect is sporting.

“The financial department will make available the money necessary to pay for a transfer once an agreement has been reached with a club.”

Faus also commented on the team’s trip to Israel, outlining the aim of the visit, whilst also remarking on Cesc Fabregas’ future.

“There are two reasons for [the visit]. The first is to do our little bit for peace, showing how sport and children can be used to build bridges between the two communities.

“It will also help to promote the club’s name, both in the Arab world, an increasingly more important market for us, and among the Jewish community.

“Cesc will stay. It’s true that there’s interest, but we do not intend for him to leave. He has a contract, the Coach wants him to stay and so does the club.”
