Martino wants Dos Santos stay

Gerardo Martino is reportedly erring on the side of caution and is set to ask Jonathan dos Santos to stay at Barcelona for next season.

The 23-year-old is widely seen as keen for first team action in 2013-14 ahead of the World Cup next summer and, having been deemed surplus in Tito Vilanova’s plans, has been on the verge of a loan move to Real Sociedad.

However, ahead of meeting with the midfielder this week, Mundo Deportivo say that new Coach Martino intends to keep hold of the Mexican, who featured in yesterday’s 2-2 draw at Lechia Gdansk.

It is understood that the Coach does not want to lose any more players from midfield, in the wake of Thiago Alcantara’s sale to Bayern Munich and that he will ask Dos Santos to stay on at the Camp Nou for next term.

It is believed, though, that Isaac Cuenca and Ibrahim Afellay will be told to find new clubs on loan for the coming season, to regain fitness and confidence.
