Napoli agree Higuain deal, but…

Napoli and Real Madrid have reportedly now reached a ‘tentative agreement’ for the transfer of striker Gonzalo Higuain, but Arsenal remain in the frame.

Napoli and Madrid were reported over the weekend as having agreed a deal for the Argentine forward, only for the player to play the second half of Los Merengues’ opening preseason friendly at Bournemouth on the Sunday night and for Carlo Ancelotti to affirm that ‘he remains a Madrid player’.

However, reports overnight are once more suggesting that a ‘tentative agreement’ between the Italians and Spanish has been reached, for an initial €37m fee, plus a further three in variables.

It is believed that now all that remains is for the player to sign off on the deal and, whilst representatives from the Partenopei met with him yesterday, the 25-year-old is apparently still keen on Arsenal.

The Gunners were reported earlier this summer as having reached an agreement with the player, only to see their negotiations with Madrid stall over Florentino Perez’s asking price of €40m.

Even so, the player is reportedly delaying committing to Napoli in the hope that the London side come through with an improved offer above their maximum bid so far of €28m.
