Barca to ratify Martino appointment

Barcelona’s board will reportedly meet on Tuesday morning to ratify Gerardo Martino’s appointment as Coach, before making an announcement.

The club are widely reported in Spain as having reached an agreement with the Argentine to come in as Tito Vilanova’s replacement, with it believed in some quarters that he has already penned a two-to-three-year contract.

Sport report today that a board meeting called at President Sandro Rosell’s house will this morning hear the details on the deal for Martino from sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta, who is seen as having met with the tactician yesterday.

The directors are expected to then sign off on the move and release confirmation later today on the 50-year-old’s appointment.

Former Newell’s Old Boy Coach Martino is anticipated as bringing with him to the Camp Nou assistant Coach Jorge Pautasso and fitness trainer Elvio Paolorroso.

It is believed, though, that Martino will only start in his new role the day after Wednesday’s preseason opener for the Blaugrana, which is against former Barca boss Pep Guardiola’s new team Bayern Munich.

Sport also report that Martino will be Barca’s fourth Argentine Coach, after Helenio Herrerra, Roque Olsen and Cesar Luis Menotti.
