City confirm Negredo purchase

Manchester City have today made official the signing of Spain striker Alvaro Negredo from Sevilla.

Sevilla confirmed on Wednesday that a deal was agreed, believed to be for an initial €25m fee followed up with €3m in variables.

On from that and the 27-year-old bidding farewell to the club in an emotional Press conference, City have confirmed on Friday that they have completed his signing.

“City are delighted to announce the signing of Alvaro Negredo, who becomes the Club’s third new recruit of the summer,” read the club’s official statement on the deal.

“The Spanish international follows Jesus Navas in making the switch from Sevilla.

“He will join up with the squad on the pre-season tour, and wear the number 9 shirt.

“Recognised as one of La Liga’s most potent strikers in recent years, the 27-year old was fourth top scorer in Spain last season with 25 league goals, trailing only Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Radamel Falcao Garcia.”

Negredo immediately reunites with Jesus Navas in Manuel Pellegrini’s new team, with the winger having made the move from the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan earlier this summer for a fee believed to be between €23m and €28m.

The forward, who finished each of the last three seasons as Sevilla’s top goalscorer in the Primera Division, is believed as having signed a four-year contract with City, worth a reported £75,000, €87,000 a week.
