Negredo set for City switch

Sevilla President Jose Maria del Nido has confirmed that Manchester City are on the verge of signing striker Alvaro Negredo.

Despite the President earlier this week suggesting that City were ‘further away’ in negotiations for the 27-year-old than Atletico Madrid, reports on Tuesday surfaced that a transfer agreement with the English had been reached.

Specifically seen as the Premier League paying an initial €25m on the striker, with a further €3m due in variables, Negredo then left Sevilla’s preseason camp on Tuesday evening.

On from this, Del Nido has confirmed to reporters on Wednesday afternoon that the Spain international will be joining Manuel Pellegrini’s new side imminently.

“Today the tables have turned and there is more chance that he will leave than stay,” Del Nido reflected at a news conference today.

“We are about to complete the sale of Negredo to Manchester City, just details remain and if all goes as we expect, we will sign the documents this afternoon and this evening.

“City will pick up a magnificent striker, Spain’s Pichichi and when we close the deal, it will be the second most important in Sevilla’s history after the sale of Dani Alves.

“The operation will be good, great, for all, even for Real Madrid through a bond of goodwill.

“We are negotiating for a replacement on two fronts, but there is no hurry, it will be an important player and at a level.

“Depending on who it is we will purchase the player or bring him in on a loan with an option to buy.”

The transfer will be the second of the summer between Sevilla and City, after Jesus Navas completed an earlier transfer to the north west of England, for a deal worth between €23m and €28m.
