Valeron: My ambition remains

Juan Carlos Valeron has enthused at his return to Las Palmas today and assured that, despite his age, he maintains his desire for the sport.

The playmaker ended 13 years at Deportivo at the end of last season and over the weekend was confirmed as having returned to hometown club Las Palmas, after 16 years away.

“I am proud and excited to be here. In recent days the desire of the public to see me here has multiplied and motivated me to come,” enthused Valeron to reporters today.

“Leaving Depor? I needed a change and to be with my family. I have spent many years player and assuming pressure, so much so that I considered quitting, or leaving, whilst in Spain the only team I could for would have been Las Palmas.

“My age? I have wondered if at 38 I would be fine, but I have trained and feel good. When you are older, the key is wanting to train, and I still have that desire.

“Obviously I do not have the same strength but I do have the same desire.

“The encouragement from the fans and the media have convinced me to sign here. Moreover, it was very fast and I did not expect this reception. I will give 100 per cent, that’s what I intend to do.”
