OFFICIAL: Thiago sold to Bayern

Barcelona have confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Bayern Munich to sell Thiago Alcantara for €25m.

The young midfielder had been increasingly linked with an exit from the Camp Nou this summer, after it emerged that his buyout clause had dropped from €90m to €18m, after failing to reach a set number of appearances in 2012-13.

On from strong speculation linking him with Manchester United, reports last week indicated that Bayern had caught the 22-year-old’s eye, whilst the Bavarians’ new Coach Pep Guardiola then made clear his determination to sign him.

Sunday evening has seen the move become a reality, with Barca confirming via a statement released on their official site that a sale has been agreed.

Thiago, who is a product of the Catalan club’s youth academy, will move to Bayern this summer for an agreed price of €25m, whilst part of the deal also sees the two clubs agree to play a friendly over the course of the next four years.

Bayern confirm in a statement on their website regarding the transfer that the player will sign a four-year contract at the Allianz Arena.

The Germans also explain that the higher transfer fee reported as paid is due to income due from the arranged friendly and indirectly from the player waiving personal salary payments.
