Djukic wants Rami to stay

New Valencia Coach Miroslav Djukic has reportedly asked Adil Rami to stay at the club this summer, despite links with a move.

The French international has gone into this summer having stalled on negotiating a new contract and seen in the media as one of Los Che’s saleable assets in a financially demanding summer.

However, despite interest from a number of sides, including most recently Napoli and Roma, the player has been asked by new Coach Djukic to consider remaining at Mestalla for next season.

Superdeporte say that Djukic has met with Rami on the first day of preseason training and made clear that he remains ‘a very important player’ for Valencia, in a message apparently backed by sporting director Braulio Vazquez.

Rami, who recently complained of the club’s treatment of him heading into the market, has reportedly communicated back that he will only leave to progress on a sporting level, rather than for money, but that if he were to stay, he would still not sign the one-year extension to his June 2015 deal.

The 27-year-old currently has a €12m buyout clause in his contract.
