Eric Abidal has reflected on his return to Monaco this summer and on how the French side are ‘trusting him’ after his recent health issues.
The 33-year-old, who was released by Barcelona after six years at the Camp Nou, was confirmed today as having agreed an initial one-year deal to return to the club that he had a two-year spell at over a decade ago.
“It’s a return to my beginnings and I am very happy to be back after 13 years,” Abidal told reporters at his presentation.
“Now the conditions are very different – the club has evolved a lot and is working hard to reach the elite.
“I am very excited. To me, this is amazing. After all that I have experienced, it was very difficult for a club to trust me again.
“The first game will be very special. Right now I have many fond memories. I want to help write a page in Monaco’s history. I’m going to try and bring my experience and help to the younger players.”
