Del Bosque backs Ancelotti

Vicente del Bosque has given his backing to Carlo Ancelotti to be a success at Real Madrid this season.

The Italian, who has been dubbed ‘the Italian Del Bosque’, has been appointed this summer on a three-year contract to replace Jose Mourinho at the Santiago Bernabeu.

It is a move by Los Blancos that has one of their more notable recent former Coaches enthusiastic.

“Ancelotti is a man who has achieved great success,” Del Bosque told reporters on a visit to the capital this week.

“He knows European football well and fits perfectly into what is required to be Coach of Real Madrid.

“He’s an excellent Coach, he has a great squad and hopefully it will mean a good season for Spanish football.”

Del Bosque considered further his reasoning this summer to bring Iker Casillas to the Confederations Cup, despite having not played for five months with Madrid.

“It served to get him back emotionally. It has been useful to have Iker feel useful, to feel like a football player.

“I would have spoken to him, but I believe that I saw him [during the tournament] as he always has been, happy.

“He has been able to do more as the competition progressed.”

It was a competition that La Roja were outplayed in during the final, to lose 3-0 to Brazil. However, the Coach does not believe that criticism of Xavi Hernandez since has been fair.

“When something like what happened in the Confederations Cup Final occurs, people look to blame the most symbolic players.

“Xavi is a player who I do not think you can judge by his age nor his performances. He is still at the same level as everyone else.”

The 62-year-old was asked his view on Madrid’s new signing for next season, Isco, who last week he described as ‘the future of the national team’.

“He has talent and quality. Of course he will have the opportunity to demonstrate as such and play. Big clubs must have very big squads because they play in a lot of games.

“Madrid have also always backed their cantera, it has been one of the underpinnings of the club.”
