Spurs agree Villa deal in principle

Barcelona striker David Villa has reached an agreement in principle to join Tottenham Hotspur, reports the Daily Mirror.

However, Spurs’ offer to Barca has not met the reported €10m asking price and the two clubs must now get together to try and agree a fee for the Spanish international.

The Premier League club’s Chairman Daniel Levy feels he may be able to persuade the Catalans to let Villa leave for less, given that it appears he has now been deemed surplus to requirements and they are desperate to get him off the wage bill.

Barca are believed to want to ensure the 31-year-old is offloaded before the start of the 2013-14 campaign, as he will be allowed to leave on a free transfer in 12 months’ time when his current agreement expires.
