Getafe defender off to Maccabi

Getafe defender Mane has become the latest Spanish player to be tempted overseas following his signing by Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The 31-year-old, real name Jose Manuel Jimenez Ortiz, had been offered a new contract at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez but instead has decided to try his luck with the Israeli champions.

Born in Tarifa, Cadiz, Mane began his career with lowly Real Balompedica Linense before finding his way to Almeria in 2006 via Diter Zafra, Atletico Madrid B and Ciudad Murcia.

After over 100 appearances for Almeria, during which he helped the Andalusians to a first-ever top-flight promotion, Mane signed a four-year contract with Getafe in June 2009.

The left-back will join fellow Spaniard and former Espanyol and Almeria defender Carlos Garcia at the Bloomfield Stadium, where he has agreed a two-year deal.
