Gerard Pique has reflected on allegations of partying made against Spain and on how he does not see Barcelona needing another centre-back.
La Roja were alleged in Brazilian media this week as having been partying and drinking into the early hours of the morning on the night that their hotel in Recife was robbed and six players had money stolen.
On from the Spanish Football Federation’s denial, though, Pique has commented that the squad are only focused on the Confederations Cup.
“It is all a lie. The Federation has taken up the issue and hopefully this will be the end of it,” the defender told Onda Cero.
“Being in a hotel and being robbed is a very unpleasant experience.
“I guess they did not want to accept it when it came out. Besides being unpleasant, it is inconvenient because we are playing for a title.”
Pique then turned his attention to club football and to Barcelona’s links in the transfer market with a number of centre-backs.
“Does Barcelona need a centre-back? I look at my team and I am comfortable with what I see. We have enough players.”
Yesterday saw former Barcelona Coach Pep Guardiola presented as Bayern Munich’s new Coach.
“Bayern have been the strongest team in Europe this season. Pep will contribute a little more.
“I’ve listened to his German and when he cares about something, he studies as is required.”
Jose Mourinho departed Real Madrid at the end of the season and Pique was asked if it will affect Barca’s approach from the summer.
“It is business as usual. He is the Coach of an opposing team. It would have been strange if he had stayed. He has gone and that’s it.
“He has tried to implement his methods for better or worse. He has won many titles internationally and is a great Coach.
“I do not know if he ended the hegemony of Barca. He arrived with Madrid within three points of Barca and has left with them 15 points behind.”
