Barcelona are reportedly looking to fend off growing interest in Cristian Tello by renewing his contract yet again to increase his buyout clause.
The winger only agreed a contract extension at the end of 2012, but saw his buyout clause stick at an initial €10m.
Specifically, the player’s latest deal signed until June 2016 does allow for the clause to increase to €16m if he plays a certain proportion of minutes in at least 50 games and up to €18m if the same proportion is met through 70 games.
However, in not meeting that minimum playing amount, the player’s clause remains €10m and has seen a number of clubs reportedly come in with interest ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
Subsequently, the Catalans have reportedly already met with the player’s agent Jose Maria Orobitg to begin further contract negotiations to change the amount that his buyout clause is set at.
One solution reportedly up for consideration with sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta would be to hand the player a €500,000 fee to up his clause to €18m, whilst there is also the suggestion that the 21-year-old could be in line for another pay rise and his contract extended further.
