Former Barcelona defender Eric Abidal is reportedly a step away from agreeing a deal to sign on at Monaco this summer.
The Frenchman, who last season returned to the game after recovering from a liver transplant, was released by Barca in May, after six years at the Camp Nou.
Determining his intention to keep playing, the 33-year-old has been linked with Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks, but most recently with newly promoted Monaco.
Following on from recent reports that he had met with the principality outfit’s billionaire owner Dmitry Rybolovlev last week, Abidal’s agent has asserted that a deal is close to completion.
“We hope to finalise an agreement during the next week,” David Venditelli has told reporters today.
