Spain hit Tahiti for 10!

Four goals for Fernando Torres, three for David Villa, two for David Silva and one for Juan Mata gave Spain a 10-0 victory over Tahiti in the Confederations Cup.

It didn’t take long for La Roja to open the scoring against the Pacific Islanders. Torres burst through inside five minutes, before slotting past the Mickael Roche at his near post.

Surprisingly though, the team ranked 138th in the world managed to keep Vicente Del Bosque’s side at bay for the majority of the half. However, after the half hour mark, the World Cup-winners got their act together. First Silva passed in from inside the area, and then two minutes later, Torres grabbed his second as he rounded the goalkeeper. Villa then poked home from Silva’s cross on 39 minutes to complete the scoring in the first half.

After the break, and once again it was only a few minutes before Spain got another one on the scoresheet. Villa grabbed his second of the night, tapping in from six yards out, and soon after Torres slotted in from Jesus Navas’ pass for his hat-trick. Just after the hour mark, the wantaway Barcelona striker managed to get himself a hat-trick following a bad mistake from the Tahiti shot-stopper and just moments later Mata popped up to make it 8-0.

Torres missed from the spot on 76 minutes, but made amends by grabbing his fourth and Spain’s ninth just a minute later and with 89 minutes on the clock, David Silva smashed in from 14 yards to take La Roja into double figures.
