Casillas: It felt like my debut

Iker Casillas reflected that starting for Spain against Uruguay last night felt the same as when he made his international debut 13 years ago.

The Real Madrid man was selected ahead of Victor Valdes and Pepe Reina to keep goal in La Roja’s 2-1 win over Uruguay, to begin their Confederations Cup campaign.

“It was a surprise,” Casillas told reporters after the game, which saw him concede a Luis Suarez free-kick from distance on 88 minutes.

“It has been five months without playing a competitive match, and even if I have earned 145 caps, this felt the same as my debut, which is something that occurred 13 years ago.

“I am happy for the win and for the team, I am grateful for the trust of Del Bosque and my teammates, with whom I want to keep winning.”
