Zidane: Bale must declare intention

Zinedine Zidane is quoted today as advising Real Madrid target Gareth Bale that if he wants to leave Tottenham, then he must say so.

The Welshman has been increasingly linked with Madrid and a select group of other clubs this summer, all said to be prepared to meet Spurs’ reported €90m valuation of the player.

For Zidane, who has previously made clear his admiration of the 23-year-old, the ball is now firmly in the player’s court.

“I think Real Madrid have made their admiration of Gareth Bale very clear – and it has been made clear that we would not be put off by the cost of the player,” the Daily Mirror quote Zidane as saying.

“But if Gareth feels now is the time to move then he has to have a private discussion with his club and express that he wants to leave.”

Zidane is currently in talks with Madrid to ascertain his role at the club next season, with it believed that he is after an assistant Coach’s role and President Florentino Perez wants him as sporting director, planning out transfer strategy.
