Barcelona defender Gerard Pique says that he could one day make a return to the Premier League.
The Spain international started his career in Barca’s youth teams but decided to join Manchester United in 2004, going on to spend four years at Old Trafford interspersed with a loan spell at Real Zaragoza before returning to Barcelona in May 2008.
However, in an exclusive interview with El Huffington Post, the 26-year-old did not completely rule out the chance to play in England again.
“You never know what happens in life and you can’t say what you are going to do. It depends on a lot of circumstances, but come on, Barca is my life.
“I was born in Barcelona, live there, my family is there, my house is there and it’s certainly where I want to stay,” maintained Pique, who also spoke about the recent signing of Brazilian wonderkid Neymar.
“He is very good. He comes from having a successful career in his own country and has shown he is a great player, so I think his arrival will help Barca grow as a club.
“He will come to teach us things and also to learn from us. It’s all very positive.”
Pique denied there could be a possible clash of egos between Neymar, Lionel Messi and himself.
“No. Not at all. I love Leo a lot and he’s like my brother. We’ve played together since we were kids and our relationship is personal. No doubt Neymar will also bring a lot and contribute.”
Asked if the Confederations Cup in Brazil was going to be difficult physically after a long, hard season, Pique maintained the modern professional footballer is accustomed to such things.
“You physique gets used to long seasons, although it was a little tougher last year with what happened to Tito [Vilanova], but your body is prepared.
“We are now concentrating on our next objective and hope to win this tournament, something we’ve never done before,” he concluded.
