Rafa Benitez is said to be still pushing for Napoli to make a move for Barcelona’s Javier Mascherano this summer.
Since taking over at the San Paolo this summer, the Spanish Coach has been linked with a move for the Argentine international, who he has previously worked with at Liverpool.
Benitez’ President Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed that the Coach is looking for a defensive midfielder and it believed in Italy that Mascherano is the primary target still.
Whilst the 29-year-old has a buyout clause of €100m, Napoli are said to be willing to produce an offer of up to €20m to try and tempt Barca with a sale.
Mascherano’s three years so far at the Camp Nou have seen him predominantly used at centre-back.
