Suarez: Madrid top for any player

Luis Suarez has once more encouraged Real Madrid to make a move for him this summer, as he explains his unhappiness in England.

The Liverpool forward declared at the end of May that he is intent on leaving the Premier League side this summer, amid links to both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.

Talking this week on the issue, the 26-year-old has reiterated that his mind remains unchanged, despite his club’s insistence that he won’t be sold.

“I do not know if I will be a Madrid player, all I know is that I have a contract,” Suarez told RR-Gol.

“Any player would like to play in a big team and Real Madrid are that. Every player wants to reach the highest level and Real Madrid is one of those clubs at the top, but hey, everything that is being said is just rumour, specifically, I have not received anything.

“Obviously, Real Madrid are a great team and every player dreams of them, Real Madrid are Real Madrid and they are the maximum that any player can reach and are always seductive.

“My agent [Pere Guardiola] tells me to stay calm. I know nothing. I ask him and he says he is calm, that at the moment there is strong interest and when there is something concrete I will be the first to know.”

The striker has previously indicated that the British Press has played its part in resolving his mindset.

“Since I arrived I have felt bad, I have never been valued for my game, but for their position on diving, protesting, gestures, racism…throughout. Never have they spoken well.

“So when it was suggested that I could be the best player in the Premier League [nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award that Gareth Bale won], I said: ‘I am calm because I know that in England I will never win a major award’.

“The other day I was walking through the mall in Manchester and up to me came three or four guys asking me for a photo. When we were doing it, my wife says: ‘Luis, get out of there’.

“When she was watching me, one of them was making a biting gesture.

“I’m with my daughter and my wife, and it is something that irritates you. My wife began to get upset and they walked away laughing. These are things that you get tired of.

Suarez is currently on international duty with Uruguay ahead of the Confederations Cup and sees his striker partner Edinson Cavani similarly linked with Madrid and other clubs.

“We never talk about what one of us wants or the other. Obviously we talk football. He asks me how the Premier League is, I ask him about Calcio. But at no time do we talk or joke about where one or the other of us will go.

“I’d rather have him as a teammate than a rival, as he is a great player. Hopefully he will go to one of those that are interested because he is very strong.”

The forward was handed an eight-game ban in late 2011 for racially abusing Manchester United’s Patrice Evra.

“Without video evidence I got eight games and [John] Terry with evidence, lip reading, they gave him four.

“I am South American and I think that came across as the result of this.”

Suarez reflected that he still has a connection to current club Liverpool.

“It is a club that I dreamed of playing for as a child. They have some great players, they know me and I would love to continue for many more years at Liverpool.

“The stadium is great, the fans are phenomenal – people with tattoos of me, things I never imagined…

“After the suspension the fans encouraged me, they told me: ‘Luis, forget everything and stay’.

“But I cannot forget because it is something I suffered for, my family have suffered and aside from football I have a family that supports me and this has hurt them.”
