Canales injury worse than thought

Valencia will be without Sergio Canales for the start of preseason, as his injury picked up with Spain Under-21s was found to be worse than first thought.

The 22-year-old returned home to Valencia at the weekend having picked up a suspected hamstring strain during the closing stages of La Rojita’s opening UEFA Under-21 Championship match with Russia.

Whilst it was believed to be just another strain in the muscle, tests carried out by Los Che have revealed that Canales has in fact torn the muscle.

The player is due to meet a consultant on Monday to determine the exact length of his recovery, but in principle it is seen that the injury will rule him out of the next two months.

This will see Canales miss Valencia’s preseason training camp in Germany and a number of their preseason friendlies, possibly including those scheduled for the start of August out in the USA.
