New Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is targeting Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso as he begins the revamp of his squad.
According to The Telegraph, recently-departed Madrid boss Mourinho is ready to raid his old club to bring the former Liverpool player to Stamford Bridge as he seeks his third Premier League title.
Alonso, 31, underwent surgery on a groin problem in Munich last week and should be fit for the start of the new season, while he has also made his peace with Chelsea’s Frank Lampard with whom he had several run-ins during his time in England.
Mourinho could also be ready to pip Manchester City in their attempt to sign Napoli hitman Edinson Cavani, with the Italian outfit’s transfer fee demand appearing to have put the Sky Blues off.
