Celta confirm Resino split

Celta Vigo have confirmed that Coach Abel Resino has left the club by mutual consent, whilst Luis Enrique is rumoured as his replacement.

Resino came in for Paco Herrera at the Galician outfit in February with the club struggling in 18th place in La Liga, four points adrift of safety.

Despite leading the side on to secure their top-flight status on the final day of the season with a win over Espanyol, Celta have confirmed today that 53-year-old has left his position by mutual consent.

“Coach Abel Resino leaves Celta Vigo following an agreement by both parties to go their separate ways, a joint decision taken today by considering that, once the target was reached in the season that has just concluded, it is best, as both the Coach and club see differences in the philosophy of the club,” Celta published in a statement on Saturday afternoon.

“Celta wish to express their sincere thanks to Abel Resino for the work he has done in the final stage of the season, in which the team has achieved survival.

“The club wishes to congratulate the Coach on this great achievement and thank him for his commitment and effort during his time on the bench, in which his behaviour has been exemplary.

“Assistant Coach Pepe Serer and physio Miguel Peiro will also not continue, and the club wishes to also thank them for their effort and dedication.”

Early reports suggest that former Barcelona B and Roma Coach Luis Enrique is a candidate to come in.
