Morata: Important to win

Alvaro Morata enthused for scoring from the bench for Spain’s Under-21s yesterday, aware of the importance of the three points.

La Rojita won 1-0 in their opening game of the UEFA Under-21 Championship, defeating Russia thanks to the Real Madrid Castilla striker’s late header.

“Thiago [Alcantara] put a great ball in and I managed to score and I'm very happy because it was important to win today,” Morata reflected to reporters post match.

“It was very important to start with the win because in this kind of tournament, you can't afford a bad match or to drop points in the first game because that can leave you out of the running for the next stage.

“You're more nervous when you're on the bench because you're not the one running and kicking the ball, but in this group we're all a team and we trust each other.”
