Laporta ready to rival Rosell

Joan Laporta has warned Sandro Rosell that he is prepared to stand against him at the next round of presidential elections at Barcelona.

Rosell is a former Vice-President of Rosell’s, but resigned early into Laporta’s eventual seven-year reign at the club.

The duo have fallen out since, with Rosell succeeding Laporta as President at the Camp Nou.

Having previously hinted at it, Laporta has today admitted that come 2016, he would be prepared to stand against his old rival in the next round of elections.

“I believe I am ready to be President again, I have people behind me that are able to re-build a model of success at the club,” Laporta told reporters in Bogota, where he is lecturing on strategic marketing.

“I know how to do it, as I had the responsibility before and I think I know what is best for the organisation, I’m ready if someday the elections are called, as a candidate.

“Rosell? It is surprising, or ridiculous, to wish to modify a model of success and they seem obsessed with destroying everything that we have built.

“Examples like removing Johan Cruyff as honorary President or changing the sponsorship at the club.

“They did their best to make Pep Guardiola leave and have had no appreciation, conversely, they have gone on to destroy our image.

“They have kept the playing style because it would be very unpopular to change it, but they are not genuine supporters of this style of playing football.”
