Emery: Now to the future

Unai Emery was happy for Sevilla’s win over his former club Valencia, and has turned his attention to rebuilding the team for next year.

The Andalucians defeated Los Che 4-3 on Saturday evening to end the season in an entertaining affair, and to see Emery’s former side drop out of Champions League qualification contention and finish fifth.

“It was a satisfaction within the disappointment of the season. Now we need to set a line of work for the future, because the most important thing is our ambition,” Emery concluded post-match.

“We had doubts and Valencia have the quality with which to leverage these doubts, but the game was more out of control, for our part. Pulling level was the key change for us. And their red card has given us confidence.

“We have been deserving of the win.”

Sevilla’s win secured ninth spot and a possible place in the Europa League, should Malaga in sixth and Rayo Vallecano in eighth both lose respective appeals against bans from Europe next year.

“We cannot be satisfied with being ninth, even as there are some rules that we cannot effect. Without wishing for this, we must now wait and see what the Court of Arbitration for Sport decide.”
