‘Ronaldo won’t go for even €1,000m’

Florentino Perez has offered his resolve to keep hold of Cristiano Ronaldo, opinion on Jose Mourinho’s tenure and a warning to Carlo Ancelotti.

Ronaldo has been linked with a possible move away from Real Madrid this summer, on from a season of speculation triggered by the player’s assertion last September that he was ‘sad’ at the club.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain have both been linked with a move, but Madrid’s President has made clear that the club won’t be selling.

“I will do everything in my power to renew his contract,” Perez has countered this week to Radio Cope.

“He has two years remaining on his current deal, he is the best in the world and we would like to give a boost to the team because he is its leaders, an emblem.

“I will not sell him, not even for €1,000m, we are not a selling club. I would like him to be at Madrid until the end of his sporting career, that would be perfect.

“He’s a winner and he wants to win titles and many Ballon d’Ors and Real Madrid is the right place for this.

“When he said he was sad he spoke to me and I told him that I would do everything possible for him to be happy.

“I want him to be happy and to have many more years here.”

Last week saw Perez agree mutually with Mourinho for the Coach to leave the club at the end of the season, after a mixed three years at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“I give him a B+. As time goes by we realise that the work of Mourinho has been very positive. People are as they are.

“He lives everything with so much passion and so much demand that sometimes things happen. It happens in every club. My job is not to light matches, but to solve problems.

“Everything that happens at Madrid is very significant, if this happens at another club it is not as significant. Here you live under constant pressure, but it is a positive to improve.

“Mourinho cannot damage the image of Real Madrid because we have the title as the world’s most valuable team.

“It is not normal for the criticisms of Mourinho to mix personal and professional. It is not easy to adapt to this pressure, even for me there are still things that still strike.

“When we dropped points near the start of the season, Mourinho demanded more from the players and that then strained the relationship.

“To leave now was best for him and the club, but that does not mean that we have been unfair to him.”

Perez was asked for comment once more on a number of other issues surrounding the club, including interest in Gareth Bale and Carlo Ancelotti.

“Certainly, Bale was born to play at Madrid.

“Carlo Ancelotti? He cannot say he has had an offer from Real Madird because he has not. We wanted to bring Carlo here in 2005 and then again in 2009.

“Now, someone says that there is a contract this year, but it is just not true. There are more Coaches than just him.
