Suarez opens door to Madrid

Liverpool’s Luis Suarez has revealed his frustration at life in England and has opened the door to a move to Real Madrid.

The Uruguayan striker has been linked with a switch to La Liga this summer, amid a mixed spell in the Premier League, which has included 51 goals in 96 appearances and respective lengthy bans for racial abuse and biting an opponent.

Midway through serving a 10-game suspension for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic, which will see him sit out the start of next season, the 26-year-old has reflected on his perception of the English media.

“I am not prepared to continue suffering at the hands of the English journalists,” Suarez told Radio Sport 890 this week.

“I'm happy at Liverpool thanks to the fans. I have committed an error. I am human. But [the media have] talked about me in ways they shouldn't have.

“My family have suffered and things have gone beyond the limits.

“I am tired of it. My daughter and my wife have suffered. I'm not prepared to continue suffering at the hands of the English journalists.

“I suffered a lot as a kid to get where I am just to be attacked unfairly by the English press. They haven't appreciated me as a player. They've just judged my attitude.

“There are a lot of rumours in the transfer period, but you never know until firm offers are made.

“One obviously always wants to triumph at the biggest clubs. I've talked to my agent. There's nothing concrete.

“It'll be hard to turn down Real Madrid, but I'm still under contract at Liverpool.”

Suarez’ international strike partner Edinson Cavani has also been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

“It's an honour for Uruguay that both Cavani and myself could end up playing at Real Madrid, but we'll have to wait to see if a firm offer comes in or not.”
