Barca accelerate Reina deal

Barcelona are hoping to speed up their pursuit of Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina, reports the Daily Star.

It is understood a verbal agreement between the 30-year-old and the Spanish giants has been reached and Reina could become a Barca player within the next two weeks.

Although Reina has claimed he is still happy on Merseyside, his agent Manuel Garcia Quilon is believed to have flown to Liverpool for talks last weekend, paving the way for a potential €9m move to the Camp Nou. It is something Reina recognised via Twitter on Wednesday morning.

“It is difficult to say no to a club like Barca. There has been no contact and nobody has said anything to me. If there had been contact with my agent he would have told me.

“I’m very happy at Liverpool and it would be difficult to leave if it wasn’t to go to Barca”.

Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal are also interested in the Spain international, but the report claims Reina has promised Liverpool he will not move to another Premier League club and is not keen on moving to France.

Nonetheless, if the Barca deal fails to materialise for whatever reason then Reina is still prepared to commit his short-term future to the Anfield club by penning a new deal.
