Karanka to go it alone

Aitor Karanka reportedly intends to move into coaching in his own right and outside of Spain when he leaves as Real Madrid assistant in the summer.

With Jose Mourinho’s departure from the Santiago Bernabeu this June confirmed by Florentino Perez on Monday evening, speculation has turned to the Portuguese’ assistant.

Former Madrid player Karanka, who has served under Mourinho during his three years in the Spanish capital, reportedly does not intend to continue with Los Blancos for next season nor follow Mourinho to his next role.

Karanka, who is represented by Jorge Mendes’ agency, was reported earlier this week as in Mourinho’s plans to make up part of his backroom staff at his next club, heavily believed to be Chelsea.

However, speculation today is that the 39-year-old former Spain Under-16 Coach is keen to move into a managerial role himself and, amid the fallout from Mourinho’s time in La Liga, intends for his work to begin outside of Spain.
