Perez: Mourinho not a failure

Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has insisted that Jose Mourinho's reign at Real Madrid was not 'a failure'.

The Blancos chief revealed on Monday that the Portuguese Coach will leave the club at the end of the season by mutual consent.

“We have reached an agreement with Mourinho to terminate his contract at the end of the season,” Perez told a Press conference.

“With Mourinho we have taken a major step forward. Today Real Madrid is in a good place. We wish him luck in his career.

“Reaching the semi-finals of competitions is not enough. This club is very demanding.

“On the whole though it's been a positive experience for us.

“We both decided it was the right time to break up this relationship.

“It was by mutual consent. The reasons Mourinho gave for leaving the club I endorse completely.

“This club will always remember Mourinho, like it does all its Coaches.”

The capital club's head then admitted that they had approached Carlo Ancelotti to become the next boss.

“We have not established any pre-contract agreements with any prospective Coaches.

“The CEO went to PSG to see if they could end [Ancelotti's] contract, but they said no.”
