Barca plump for Ter Stegen?

Barcelona’s struggles over Pepe Reina and Vicente Guaita reportedly mean that they will opt to sign Marc-Andre ter Stegen this summer.

The Catalans are working in the market to secure a goalkeeper this summer or next to replace Victor Valdes, with speculation that Valdes’ decision to try and leave this year putting the onus on activity now.

Marca understand though that the club are struggling in attempted moves for Reina and Guaita, who have respectively been identified as potential targets.

Officials at the Camp Nou are said to be divided on whether or not to sign Liverpool’s Reina, when it would require once more paying money for a former player to return.

Meanwhile, where the club’s Coaches prefer Valencia’s Guaita, early talks have apparently found that the 26-year-old does not want to leave Mestalla just yet.

It is believed that a compromise lies in a move for Borussia Monchengladbach’s 21-year-old German Ter Stegen, who is highly rated and priced at €10m.

Stegen has received the backing of teammate and former Atletico Madrid defender Alvaro Dominguez to make the jump to La Liga.

“Ter Stegen has been learning Spanish for months,” Dominguez told reporters this week. “He would suit Barca’s style. He has personality, quality, handles the ball very well with both feet and the team starts their play from him.”
