Ronaldo after €15m net salary

Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly looking to price himself out of Real Madrid renewing his contract, in a bid to engineer a move away.

The Portuguese is seen as having held tentative contract renewal talks with Madrid at the start of the season, which in failing to progress, have been followed by increased speculation of a possible departure.

Terra believe that following on from Ronaldo’s request for full image rights having been turned down, he has also been pushing for a pay increase to take him to an after tax salary of €15m a year.

With a 52 per cent tax rate for high earners in the community of Madrid, this would require an actual pay rise from the club of over €30m.

Apparently, his request to receive this marked improvement in earnings first came at the end of last summer and was backed with the implication that Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain both were interested in signing him otherwise.

However, it was met with Madrid’s response that he will be transferred, only if he ‘brought the money to sign Messi’.

This breakdown in talks reportedly prompted Ronaldo’s public assessment that he was ‘sad and the club know why’.

Apparently, Ronaldo has maintained his wage and image rights demands, to force Madrid to either comply, or sell him to United this summer, or see him run down the final two years of his current contract.
