Madrid: €10m salary for Neymar

AS report that Real Madrid are trying to convince Barcelona target Neymar to sign with them, with a bumper contract offer on the table.

Speculation in parts of the media in recent weeks has suggested that Madrid are prepared to come in with an offer for the 21-year-old, even if it involves paying a significant sum to break him from an alleged pre-contract agreement with their Clasico rivals.

AS follow that financial commitment up with a further detail, in that the club will apparently put Neymar on salary level with Cristiano Ronaldo and Ricky Kaka, of €10m a year.

The player’s current earnings after tax are believed to be above that figure, when his apparent €2m salary and bonuses at Santos is added to the income due on the 90 per cent of his image rights he owns.

Neymar has sponsorship deals signed with as many as 10 different companies, boosting his total annual income to a pre-tax figure of €19.2m.

Madrid’s offer is to increase his basic wage, allow him to continue these advertising agreements until their expiries – most in 2015 and 2016 – and then to pick up 50 per cent image rights from the time he signs at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Another aspect AS understand exists is that any move to Madrid would see current sponsorship agreements for Neymar boosted, with those increases shared 50-50 between player and club.
