Alba not relying on Madrid slip

Jordi Alba has affirmed that whilst Barcelona will keep an eye out for Real Madrid’s result, they intend to win the League at Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

Barca could be crowned League champions by the time they line up at the Vicente Calderon, with Madrid needing to win at Espanyol to remain mathematically in the hunt.

For La Blaugrana’s full-back, ensuring that his team pick up the point they need to be sure of the title on Sunday is the only focus.

“Hopefully on Sunday after playing Madrid, we can lift the title,” Alba told reporters on Friday.

“We want to be the champions of the League. There is no value in the points total we achieve, there is a great distance already to second place.

“In the dressing room we are happy with the job we have done. We do not know if Real Madrid will win in Cornella, so we should go out in our game to give joy to the fans who deserve a title like the League.

“We see every game. If they mess up [at Espanyol], we will be champions, but we think to ourselves. We showed this against Betis, whilst now we are up against a great rival like Atletico, who are at a good level.

“Our season in review? Very good. In the semi-finals of the Champions League we were not up to the level and Bayern proved to be at an incredible level.

“It seems that no value is given to the League, but the campaign has been very good, no doubt.

“It is not for me to say if we need to improve the squad in the summer, but the team looks good.

“It is not up to me, the ins and outs.

“There is a very good atmosphere in the dressing room, but the technical staff will decide.”
