‘Madrid could hijack Mattheus deal’

Bebeto has claimed that Real Madrid could hijack Juventus’ attempts to sign his son Mattheus from Flamengo this summer.

The 18-year-old Brazilian midfielder was thought to be in the final stages of negotiating a transfer to Juve in time for next season.

However, 1994 World Cup winner and father to the 18-year-old, Bebeto, has asserted that Madrid are circling amid delays in talks.

“Juventus have shown great interest in him and I know a five-year contract has been agreed in principal,” the retired striker told the Gazzetta dello Sport today.

“However, Juve need to pay €1m up front because his contract with Flamengo expires at the end of December.

“As soon as that arrives then Mattheus will leave for Turin.

“The problem is that Flamengo aren’t letting him play anymore given that they know he is leaving and he can’t afford to not play for the rest of the year.

“He has a lot of offers and if Juventus don’t define everything by May 10 then we would consider ourselves free to talk to Real Madrid who have made us a good offer.”
