Busquets: Injury keeps improving

Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets has reflected on his struggles with a hernia, his future at the club and rumours surrounding Carles Puyol.

The midfielder has been struggling in recent weeks with a hernia injury, but made a brief cameo appearance at the weekend. Speculation is that he could be a doubt for the summer’s Confederations Cup.

“I’m a little better since I began having it treated. The injury is complicated, whilst there are days when I am better than others,” commented Busquets to reporters today.

“It is an area that can have repercussions – it began in late January, early February.

“Now I feel better. I will not do everything, but I intend to be back working with the team. I hope I can continue everything well in the League games.

“Would I miss the Confederations Cup? That has not be discussed. The injury is improving. Everything has gone better in recent weeks and every day I am doing more.

“And by that time I will be better than I am now. If not at 100 per cent then almost.

“An operation? Clearly this is an option when you have this sort of injury, but it has been better since I have begun the treatment.

“I will not go into the operating room and less so with the Confederations Cup coming up. It is not something that I have considered.”

The midfielder was asked about the speculation this week surrounding teammate Puyol.

“I see him as fine, going through his recovery process and wanting to be back as soon as possible. He always has to be stopped because he wants to come back as soon as he can.

“He is quite normal. He has denied the rumours that have been around him. He wishes to continue at Barca for many years.”

Busquets was then asked of his own future at the Camp Nou.

“I see my future as here, I have no intention of leaving. I look to Barca. Players like Xavi, Puyol, Valdes, they are an example for me.”

Barcelona could win the League title before they next play, with Real Madrid needing to win their next two games to ensure that mathematically Barca must then beat Atletico Madrid come Sunday.

“Winning a title is always special and the League even more so. It is the regular tournament and the most important. Moreover, it will be the fourth in five years, and that would be spectacular.”
