Iniesta doesn’t get Casillas situation

Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta has conceded that from a distance, Iker Casillas’ situation at Real Madrid is a curious one.

The midfielder today was asked for comment on Spain teammate Casillas’ struggles to get back into the Madrid starting XI amid rumours of a poor relationship with Jose Mourinho.

“From a distance I do not understand, in the sense of what Iker has always represented and for what he currently represents,” Iniesta responded on Onda Cero today.

“Not only for him not playing, but for the things that you hear. It is a difficult situation.

“Diego Lopez is playing very well and is a great goalkeeper, but I do not mean the sporting situation, but the things that you hear.”

Iniesta was also asked of Barca’s Champions League heartache suffered last week, when Bayern Munich eliminated them from the semi-finals with a 7-0 aggregate score.

“The feeling during the Champions League semi-finals was terrible both there [in Germany] and here [at the Camp Nou]. Of course it hurts, it hurts the soul, both of the players and the fans.

“The elimination from Europe has been very painful for how it was. But, we’re about to win a very difficult League, it has been so fro many things throughout the year, and so we have to give value to that.

“We must keep perspective. The next day, things do not look the same as they do straight after the game.

“You cannot throw it all away when this team can become champions this week.

“Just because we lost the way we have in the Champions League, does not mean we need to make more changes.

“This team has shown throughout the last year that we have been very good and we have managed to win a League that has a lot of value.”
