‘Mallorca have to beat Levante’

Dudu Aouate says that Mallorca must defeat Levante this weekend or they can ‘wave goodbye’ to Primera Division football.

The island outfit slipped to bottom of the table and three points from safety in Week 33 with defeat to Real Zaragoza, creating what their goalkeeper now sees as a must-win situation against Levante at Sunday lunchtime.

“If on Sunday we do not get the three points against Levante then yes, we could say goodbye to the League,” Auoate told reporters this week.

“I hate to think that this might happen. The team, the coaching staff and the fans all want the win.

“It is true that we are going through a very difficult moment, but, for instance, I have already experienced something similar with Racing Santander and we were saved with three straight wins.

“The situation hurts me more than you [pointing to a journalist], but we are struggling and suffering in an attempt to reverse it.

“The team is strong. There is no fear. We will create a positive atmosphere so as to get the fundamental points on Sunday.

“We are grateful to our fans and we will prove it once and for all on the field.

“Is it a final this weekend? Definitely. Do you have any better word?”
