Ronaldo: First leg hurt us

Cristiano Ronaldo reflected that Real Madrid’s task against Borussia Dortmund was hindered by a heavy first leg defeat, and also commented on his future.

Madrid are out of the Champions League despite a 2-0 win in the semi-final second leg on Tuesday, losing 4-3 on aggregate.

“The atmosphere here tonight was fantastic. The fans need to be congratulated and appreciated for their support,” commented Ronaldo afterwards in reference to the atmosphere that the game was played in.

“It was a pity we couldn't achieve more. The first leg was key as four goals are a lot to concede in a semi-final.

“We showed tonight, however, that we are a team capable of playing in a final. We gave it our all and when you do that, there is not much left to say.

“The team fought and the supporters were incredible; I'm left feeling quite emotional as to how they backed us.

“We thank them and want to tell them that next season we will be there again fighting.”

Ronaldo was asked once more on speculation surrounding his future and then also on that once more returned to Jose Mourinho.

“I have two years left on my contract and I am not worried about my renewal. I want to continue to win anywhere.

“I do not care if Mourinho stays or not. Real Madrid are important to me.”
