Valverde wants assurances

Ernesto Valverde reportedly held another round of contract talks with Valencia at the weekend, but is still reluctant to sign on.

The Coach, who has taken the club up the table since replacing Mauricio Pellegrino in November, is out of contract in the summer and has seen talks with Los Che over a new deal disrupted by an unsettled boardroom.

On from Manuel Llorente’s resignation as President, sporting director Braulio Vazquez is understood to have taken on direct talks with Valverde over renewing, with the latest discussions reportedly held before Valencia’s defeat at Real Sociedad.

Marca understand that where the club and technician are close on economic terms and the potential two-year length of any deal, in a one year agreement with an option for a second, Valverde is seen as still pushing for assurances over the club’s plans at boardroom level.

Currently, Amadeo Salvo of the club’s majority shareholding board Fundacio VCF has taken over management of sporting aspects – with colleague and newly elected board President Aurelio Martinez heading the financial side.

However, Salvo, who met with Valverde last week to also offer his reassurances, will likely step aside when the club’s new President is elected in June.
