Real Madrid legend Carlos Santillana has outlined how Real Madrid must approach their Champions League semi-final against Borussia Dortmund.
Madrid head into the home leg this Tuesday looking to turn around a 4-1 defeat suffered in Germany.
Santillana, who spent 17 years with Madrid, was involved first hand in several European comebacks during his career, including games against Derby County, Borussia Monchengladbach, Inter and Anderlecht.
“They were electric matches that were full of emotion. I remember the Bernabeu got right behind the team from the first minute to the 90th,” the 60-year-old former striker told Marca this week.
“When we managed to turn around games that we were losing, we were all convinced after in the changing room that we could come back from anything at the Bernabeu, with the fans' support - 100,000 people screaming at the top of their voices.
“Apart from being focussed, you had to put the opponent under real pressure, fight for every ball as if it were the last thing you did in life.
“Nowadays at the club there are players who can fire in free-kicks, not just Ronaldo. They must take advantage of this and hope to get free-kicks around the edge of the box.
“But you don't just win football matches with quality, which is what we have, you also have to be clever at certain points of the game. You must fight to the death for every ball.”
